My interest in gymnastics first came about when I attended one of my friend's birthday party. She had her party at a gymnastics gym, and that’s where my love for the sport began. After that, I started attending classes at the same gym her birthday party was at.
Right before the COVID Pandemic started in March of 2020, I tried out for the IGC gymnastics team at MidIsland Gymnastics in Hicksville, NY. When the pandemic was at its peak, I was unable to attend practices since everything was shut down. I would go outside on my trampoline during lockdown because I thought it would be a great opportunity to perfect my skills. I practiced back handspring’s and basic back and front saltos. I also started using the swing set as a makeshift bar to practice for the uneven bars. I put my creativity to the test! These were difficult times for everyone, but I tried to make the most out of it.
When the gym reopened, I started as a Copper 1. With the help of my Coach, Mollie, and consistently practicing in the gym again, I excelled and became a Bronze. My first competition was Flip for a Cure in the Spring of 2022. In my first year of competing, I made it all the way to USAIGC Worlds. After the Summer of 2022, Coach Mollie left the gym. I was upset, but I was happy that she was pursuing a new journey.
I fractured my growth platelet in my left radius, at my first gym. This was discouraging for me because I was without a club gym home for some time. I did not let this stop me though! In the winter of 2022, I joined the Hicksville High School Varsity Gymnastics Team, as an exhibitionist. I learned new skills from my varsity coach, but I was still without a club gym home.
My family and I searched until I found Sagamore Academy of Gymnastics. As soon as I walked through the doors, I knew I found my home! I am still on a trajectory to USAIGC Worlds. My best competition so far, this year, was at Springtime Classic. I placed 2nd All Around with a score of 35.15 for the Bronze Senior B Category.
